Orchid from Ashes

Fire rages and dances with the air as
So much of the past year
Go up in smoke. Letters of love
And hate, lists of vegetables
And different flavours of ice
Cream, contracts and resolutions,
Have gone on to blossom or die
And now lie in a heap of ashes.

We died with the year and rose anew
Blessed with blank pages and coloured pens
To write new lists and draw fairies into existence.
We cross off demons from the past year
And paint an invite to the angels of good fortune.

Today, we travel light with a clean slate
And an empty bag to pick up all that is good
and dandy as we grow with the year
I begin this year with you, faith and hope
And the conviction that orchids will grow
From ashes of the year past.
